Overview

Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at Old Malaya, 1947 Namaste India offers a genuine taste of North Indian cuisine that captures the essence of India’s rich culinary heritage. This restaurant’s location on Lot 8, Lorong Raja Chulan, makes it a perfect stop for locals and visitors seeking an authentic Indian dining experience amidst the city’s vibrant food scene.

The menu at 1947 Namaste India shines with classic dishes that reflect time-honored recipes and skillful preparation. Signature offerings like Butter Chicken served alongside a selection of traditional Indian breads provide a comforting and flavorful main course, balancing creamy richness with subtle spices. The Pani Puri and Appetizer Sampler bring forth a delightful variety of textures and bursts of tangy zest—essential starters to awaken the palate.

Vegetarian options such as Paneer Butter Masala and Chole Bhature stand out for their depth of flavor, combining smooth, spiced gravies with soft, fresh paneer and fluffy, well-fermented bhature. Meat lovers will appreciate the robust Mutton Rogan Josh and tender Chicken Tikka, each imbued with authentic spice blends that bring warmth and heartiness to the table.

The dessert selection caters well to those with a sweet tooth, featuring traditional favorites like Mango Kulfi and the restaurant’s specialty, Kesar Jalebi with Rabri. These desserts not only conclude the meal on a high note but also provide a window into India’s rich dessert culture with their rich textures and fragrant saffron notes.

1947 Namaste India is well-suited for families, couples, and groups who appreciate traditional Indian flavors served in a clean and comfortable setting. The ambiance balances casual comfort with a welcoming vibe, ideal for both everyday meals and special gatherings. Despite some feedback on pacing and service, especially for larger groups, the staff remains polite and attentive, striving to create a pleasant dining atmosphere.

While the restaurant offers a modest selection of wines and premium gins, the focus firmly remains on the culinary offerings. This keeps the experience centered on authentic food rather than an extensive beverage list. Note that water is chargeable here, a detail worth remembering before your visit.

In essence, 1947 Namaste India stands as a reliable destination for those craving authentic North Indian cuisine in Kuala Lumpur. Its dedication to genuine flavors, combined with a clean and inviting space, reflects in the satisfaction of both locals and travelers. Whether you seek the comforting richness of Butter Chicken, the spirited zest of Chole Bhature, or the indulgent sweetness of Jalebi Rabri, this restaurant brings India’s culinary heritage to life with heart and soul.

This is a good place to have north Indian food. Taste is really authentic. Chhola Bhatura: Bhatura size was reasonably small but tasty and chhole was extremely sour but texture and spice balance was great. Dal Tadka: Really good Paneer butter masala : Must try Kadhai Paneer : Must try Jalebi Rabdi: Found jalebi bit hard but rabdi was top notch. NOTE: Water is chargeable so carry your own refilled bottle. And don’t ask for repeated complementary onion

Great food!! Must visit if you are after great flavours of India. Biryani, Chicken and sweet dishes were awesome. Service was slow and waiters didn’t attend as often you would expect so had to keep looking for them but still worth a visit

On a golfing trip to Kuala Lumpur the Captain organized a final Dinner for all attendees at this Indian Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur . It’s a short walk from the Shangri la Hotel where we all were staying . It was a nice evening and we were seated outside . A little too warm to sit outside in January , the fan helped . Service could have Been better , but we were a very large group The food was just great , Had a lot of fun . They could improve on the wine list as they did not have much to choose from .

The dishes at this Indian restaurant are very authentic and the taste is also exceptionally good. I think it's suitable for every family, individual, or couple who comes to Malaysia, especially to Kuala Lumpur, to experience and try them. If you really come and try their food and service, you will truly feel that there is a kind of, um, culture, or rather, their own values here that are well worth a visit. I hope everyone comes here to take a look, try the food, and experience the Indian culture and cuisine
